Finishing off post

Last Blog post

Unfortunately Aniela was not in on the last day due to an illness, so as you can see we decided to photoshop Aniela into the image so she wasn't left out (we all apologise for the horrible photoshop). We are glad that we have finally finished our blog and that we have all went through this journey together, as well as gain various skills along the way which may not be media related such as team work skill and listening skills.

Production schedule update

This is the Original filming schedule we had created:
Changes

  • We added a day of filming as we realised two days was not enough time to get all the shots we needed. As it was a discrete title sequence there needed to many random shots, which we had originally underestimated.
  • The extra day was about 4 hours of filming on the 1st of December which was a Thursday.
  • The location was Ersila's garage and it involved shots of the outside of the garage.
  • Another change was the location of the first day of filming - we did not end up filming in Enfield churches or in Finsbury park. Instead, we focused on filming shots of churches and around churches in the other two locations written.

Question 2: How does your media product represent social groups?

Updates of changes since the pitch

Props

  • Since the pitch, we have decided that instead of a flag we will have a globe as a prop as this would specify the area of the Bible Belt region where the title sequence is based.
  • We also excluded the crucifix as we decided it would be too strong of a religious semantic field and therefore give away too much of the storyline.
  • We also got rid of the confederate patch, since we removed the medium shots of the main character, which therefore made it difficult for the patch to be incorporated.

Editing and Sound

  • Not much has changed on the editing and sound part. Our shots are quick and snappy and flow with the build up of music. We have layered a drone, the preacher's voice and organ music, which comes in during the church shots.
  • For sound, we have added a specific jingle for the production company imagine in the beginning, which was not mentioned in the pitch as it was something we learnt about after it.
  • We also added more diegetic sounds than we originally planned on having, such as a door creak, candle flicker and footsteps.
  • We also did not do much over-craking and under-craking as we originally thought we would, however, we did go through the process of colour grading, which we were not aware of during the time we were pitching.

Filming and characters

  • A major change we decided on was to not include shots of our main character, which we had said we would in the pitch. This is because it made our title sequence stray too much from being discrete and it almost made it narrative.
  • We also included many shots, which we originally were not planning on including such as:
  1. door closing shot
  2. shot of light turning on
  3. shot of feet running away
  4. hand pinning on the globe

  • We also focused much more on lighting than we had mentioned previously.  The dark lighting and the shots of lights flickering and turning on really helped create an eerie atmosphere.
